This employee will serve as a specialized Preclinical MR technician for the Preclinical and Translational Imaging Center (PTIC) at the University of California, Irvine. PTIC provides state of the art MRI imaging for preclinical neuroscience research purposes here at UCI, other universities and corporate customers. The incumbent is responsible for assuring the safe, effective, and compliant use of the MRI scanning equipment. Additional responsibilities include daily operation and maintenance of the MR scanner, technical research and development of new pulse sequences, image reconstruction techniques, and appropriate use of image analysis algorithms. The Preclinical MR technician will also be responsible for MRI image analysis consulting for users as needed.
At least 2-3 years of previous research experience in an animal research setting in the field of neuroscience, biology, or psychology at a post-Bachelor's level or higher. Imaging experience with functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI), structural MRI, and diffusion MRI data acquisition for neuroscience research. Demonstrated experience with operation of and pulse sequence programming on a Bruker platform. Demonstrated experience with MRI image analysis, quality control, and quantitative evaluation of scanner performance. Strong analytic, inductive and deductive reasoning skills. Experience in functional, structural, and diffusion MRI image processing. Good communication skills - oral and written - ability to calibrate communication to the appropriate level of the user's technical understanding.
Demonstrated experience with C/C++, MATLAB, and Python programming languages. Advanced technical computer skills for maintenance of Linux, Windows, and OS X computers. General understanding and acceptance of University procedures and goals.
