The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at UC Irvine invites highly motivated applicants for a postdoctoral scholar position in the Ardona Research Group (https://faculty.sites.uci.edu/ardonaresearchgroup/). The project will involve the development (synthesis of building blocks and materials characterization) of optically responsive biomaterials for studying cardiac tissues. In particular, these materials will be designed as probes with optical readouts that respond to mechanical or chemical stimuli. The position is suited for candidates interested in working with an interdisciplinary team.
Experience with materials-oriented organic synthesis or protein/peptide conjugation techniques is preferable. Background in tissue engineering or working with primary cell lines is beneficial but not required. Candidates should have a doctorate in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, biomedical engineering, or other relevant fields.
Initial appointment will be for 12 months and be renewable for up to two years, subject to performance and availability of funding.
