Responsibilities The Epic Project Manager provides leadership, project management and system analysis for the IT Epic Application teams by implementing specialized, complex clinical, financial and operational information system solutions.
Responsibilities include: Providing leadership, designing, developing, testing, implementing, and evaluating Epic applications and related third-party information systems for the organization; Participating in planning, developing, training, implementation, and evaluation of information systems to support organizational and strategic priorities; Developing, evaluating, and determining ongoing support for all components of assigned projects. Incumbent will manage multiple projects simultaneously of various sizes in a cross matrixed environment. Duties include creating and managing a project plan with assigned resources, creating and maintaining project documentation (including project charters, specifications, business cases, status reports and other project artifacts as requested by leadership), recording risks and issues and tracking project financials.
This role works closely with operational and clinical stakeholders, application managers, analysts and others to lead and coordinate all project activities, data and communication that arise during the project life cycle. Incumbent will be knowledgeable about the procedures, workflows, and business operations within the end users organizations. The project manager / analyst has knowledge of Epic Applications and how they relate to supporting healthcare operations and clinicians. The position works closely with administration and serves as a bridge between organization leadership, end users, vendors, and other IT support teams. The position will support the UC Davis Health priorities, goals and strategic plan.
This role involves complex projects and demands independent decision making, strong project management skills and superior customer service interactions with a wide range of constituents. The project manager / application analyst will partner with UC Davis Health leadership, faculty and staff to develop and implement Epic application workflows, analytic dashboards and system solutions.
The project manager / application analyst will be a leader on the team by partnering daily to monitor responsibilities, tasks, and other duties assigned to the team. The project manager / application analyst will be available to answer any support/project questions, assist in troubleshooting, give guidance on projects and general next steps, as well as provide detailed status to the IT application managers and project stakeholders. The project manager / analyst will help oversee the team's daily responsibilities to ensure tasks are completed on time, and will escalate to manager as necessary.
Extensive experience with project management, information systems trends, and professional practice standards.
Certified in EpicCare Ambulatory, Inpatient Clinical Documentation, or similar modules.
Experience with Epic Electronic Medical Record (EMR) build and configuration.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in information systems, or project or program management.
Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare related practices and principles.
Displays and interprets data in clear and concise tables, graphics and reports.
Demonstrated ability to gather information from multiple sources and analyze applicability and appropriateness, and develop an efficient workflow and subsequent computerized process.
Experience with application of adult learning principles.
Experience with organizational strategies, business operations, and end-user requirements to develop system design and training projects.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership and change management skills to establish and maintain positive and productive working relationships.
Proficient in office automation software (word processing, spreadsheets, visual presentation, etc.) and strong presentation skills.
Experience in more advanced Epic Inpatient and Ambulatory features and programs such as Telehealth, presurgical programs, enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) programs, pathways.
Epic certifications in any of the applications.
Experience working with multiple clinical information systems or system implementation teams for complex projects and/or application development.
Experience with coordinating system development and implementation with relevant clinical and operational initiatives and informatics projects.
Experience with methods and tools for systems development life cycle as related to clinical informatics.
Experience with quality improvement principles, practices, and tools into system design.
Experience with designing and monitoring technology-enabled organizational change.
Experience working in an academic institution or large integrated health system.
Experience defining and using metrics to measure outcomes.
Successfully complete training or certifications as required by hiring manager. Some travel may be required for training or certification
Travel in the Northern California region may be required. Reliable transportation necessary for off-site visits. Mileage and travel expenses will be reimbursed per UC Policy. Occasional out of state travel may be required to attend training.
