Required Minimum Quals:
Bachelor's degree and 7 years of related experience; OR a Master's degree and 5 years of related experience.
Masterâs Degree, MBA or CPA. Strategic budget development, budget projection and fiscal analytics experience. Experience with government policies/regulations related to state and federal funding. Fiscal experience in a university or academic fiscal setting. Supervisory experience. Training or experience in âLean Officeâ or management systems using lean processes.
Scope and Objectives
The Academic Fiscal Officer III position is a key member of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) leadership team at Iowa State University with direct interaction with the dean and senior leaders. The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences is one of the world's leading institutions of agriculture. The Academic Fiscal Officer works with unit fiscal managers to lead, oversee and advise on divisional financial, budgetary, auxiliary services, communications, training, engagement, and resource planning, ensuring appropriate and consistent interpretation of and compliance with university regulations, policies and procedures.Â
The Academic Fiscal Officer is a senior partner on the CALS management team, which is responsible for institutional financial strategic planning.
Tracks trends and develops long range divisional plans, including the establishment and implementation of goals and objectives to achieve the plans
Develops and implements strategic and creative solutions to achieve divisional and university priorities
Oversees budgetary plans and recommendations to obtain the needed resources to achieve the divisionâs mission and ensures that budgetary controls exist to monitor, verify, and reconcile financial activities
Conducts high level comparative analyses and research, interprets that information, and provides recommendations to senior management
Leads and manages projects
Advise the dean, associate deans, department chairs and center directors, faculty and staff on financial, budget and policy issues
Stewards the divisionâs commitment to building a positive, productive and healthy working environment; provides exceptional service to campus as well as a personal commitment to effective business processes and services
Excellent communication, collaboration and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
Possess a high level of tact and diplomacy; strong analytical and problem solving skills; a high degree of ethical decision making; sound judgement; initiative; critical thinking skills
