Provides direct patient care services and performs medical acts as a nurse practitioner under the supervision of the Clinical Director of the Infectious Disease Division at Michigan State University. The NP is responsible and accountable for the continuous and comprehensive management of patients to include: promotion and maintenance of health; diagnosing treating managing acute and chronic illnesses guidance and counseling for both individuals and families; prevention of illness and disability; prescribing, administering, and dispensing therapeutic measures, tests, procedures, and drugs; evaluating health outcomes planning for situations beyond the NP’s expertise, and consulting with and referring to other healthcare providers as appropriate. The NP contributes to excellence in patient care, research, teaching, and provides leadership to the organization.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelor degree work such as a Masters in Nursing; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in direct nursing care in a specialized area or a Master's Degree in Nursing; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in direct nursing care in a specialized area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The position also requires possession of a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and specialty certification as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Michigan. May require certification by the American Nurses' Association in a specialty area.
Completion of accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Must demonstrate and maintain credentialing and licensing requirements of the State of Michigan and DEA.
Additional certification in diabetes management, HIV management and thyroid disease.
