The Mellon College of Science (MCS) is home to four departments and many programs and research centers that cross disciplines. We approach scientific problems from fresh angles using creative interdisciplinary approaches while drawing on our departmental strengths in the core sciences. MCS faculty members are nationally and internationally recognized for their research in a variety of fields, including polymer science, cosmology, mathematical finance and neuroscience.
We are seeking a Director of Graduate Programs to join our team at MCS. In this role, you will be working closely with the Associate Dean for Faculty & Graduate Affairs, and work across departments, within and external to MCS to strategically plan, implement and evaluate a comprehensive graduate experience for MCS PhD and Master's students. You will focus on meta-curricular affairs, building a brand for MCS and a sense of community and will take the lead to assist departments in the development of new master's programs including the new MS program in Scientific Data Analytics.
Core responsibilities include:
Working with MCS Marketing and Communication group to increase visibility of MCS graduate programs, building consistency in various publications and a known brand for MCS
Working with departments to ensure a consistent application, admission and enrollment process. Managing application and enrollment process for all MCS Master's programs and any cross-college or cross-university interdisciplinary programs
Creating and running an on-boarding process for all graduate students with the goal of building a sense of community, ensuring a consistent message and setting the tone for graduate education
Working with graduate student organizations, departments and Associate Dean to create both social and learning activities. Leading the college's efforts to develop and sustain professional development programming and career exploration opportunities
Coordinating and administering graduate programming such as communications workshops, ESL assessments and other career development programming. Evaluating existing programming, identifying new opportunities and implementing appropriate workshops. Delivering workshops when necessary
Identifying and negotiating partnerships to improve graduate enrollment growth, ensuring cross university/school collaborations on development and delivery of innovative graduate programming
In collaboration with the academic departments, leading the college efforts to improve outreach to and recruitment of historically underrepresented students
Developing college-level academic policies and procedures as needed
With the Associate Dean for Graduate and Faculty Affairs, leading the college's efforts to develop new graduate programs, and is encouraged to take a leading role in the new MS program in Scientific Data Analytics
Serving on relevant University and College committees related to graduate education when requested
In partnership with the Associate Dean for Advancement, supporting the college's efforts to secure external funding to support innovative graduate education
Communicating regularly with department level graduate program directors and advising staff and coordinating meetings to disseminate meaningful information and updates
Performing other related duties as assigned
Master's degree required
8-10 years of experience, preferably in higher education management or professional development
