The Student Hourly Assistant, under general supervision, will assist Information Technology with monitoring and assisting students, staff and faculty in the Student Computing Center. The Lab Assistant will also assist customers with basic software problems on various computer platforms (PC compatibles and Macintosh) and assist customers experiencing basic hardware or network problems. Lab Assistants will ensure that the computer lab is a clean, neat, and organized workplace. All Lab Assistants must be prompt, courteous, and have the ability to clearly communicate solutions or directions to other Lab Assistants and customers.
Monitoring lab for safety and security issues adhering to university safety and emergency guidelines and procedures
Monitoring lab equipment and lab supplies
Report all discrepancies to the University Lab Manager
Providing assistance to customers at the service desk
Providing base-level support on using the computer network and accessing software
Maintain a working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Professional Suite (Word, PowerPoint and Excel) with the ability to provide application support assistance to customers
Monitor lab printers to help to ensure customers are not violating Lab rules and guidelines including printing copyrighted material and maintaining printers (change toner cartridges, paper and cleaning)
Work with Information Technology Services management and staff on assigned projects, follow directions as well as providing completion reports as required
Other duties as assigned
Required Education and Experience:
Presently enrolled at Prairie View A&M University for at least nine (9) graduate or six (6) undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done.
Must be in good academic standing (SAP) as demonstrated through your college; minimum 2.0 GPA
No prior experience necessary
For work eligibility during a summer term, a student must be enrolled for at least three (3) graduate or undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done or preregistered at least six (6) undergraduate semester hours or nine (9) graduate semester hours for the upcoming fall term.
