This position will assist with the daily care of research animals housed within the LARC facilities.
Duties include, but not limited to:
- Perform animal husbandry (care, feeding, watering, and cleaning), and/or provide husbandry support functions (cage wash duties which could include: running tunnel/rack washers, running bulk autoclaves, assembling housing units, etc.).
- Maintain proper sanitation, environment, and health status of housing units. Maintain/verify proper record keeping (census, animal health, document sanitation and equipment maintenance).
- Provide technical support for LARC and research investigators (treatments, sample collection for sentinels, weaning litters, and administering special diets).
- Participate in continuing education and training.
High school diploma or GED and one year of relevant animal care experience.
Ability to have direct and/or indirect physical contact with multiple species of animals. Willing to participate in Occupational Health Program for LARC employees, including receiving immunizations recommended by Occupational Health Services. Ability to follow instructions, manage multiple concurrent tasks with frequent interruptions, and maintain confidentiality.
Working Conditions / Demands
Very strenuous work, often involving moving racks of filled water bottles, animals, and animal housing units weighing up to 250 pounds. Requires repetitive motions and some delicate manipulations.
