To provide general custodial functions in assigned locations of the College; direct the work of custodians on shift.
Dusts, sweeps, vacuums, mops and polishes all surfaces (e.g. floors, walls, chalkboards, windows) in assigned geographical areas (e.g. residence halls, bathrooms, offices, classrooms) as appropriate and necessary.
Removes trash from assigned work areas on a daily basis.
Ensures that supplies are replenished, as necessary (e.g. toilet paper, paper towels and soap in the bathrooms, for example).
Creates and maintains a daily Work Order Log of repair or replacement items discovered by custodians in the course of their cleaning duties to supervisor (e.g. broken blinds, leaking water pipes, broken toilets, improperly functioning lights/light switches).
Assists Custodial Manager in preparation and supervision of shift assignments for campus custodians.
Cleans windows, blinds, curtains, shampoo or spot clean carpets and furniture as necessary.
Responsible for inventory control and distribution of maintenance supplies.
Responsible for custodial compliance with safety training procedures.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Acts as back-up for custodians who are absent.
Ensures that any found items belonging to students, faculty or staff are submitted to the Custodial Manager for return to their owners.
Cleans dormitories, wash and dry linen for the summer groups.
Completion of work orders.
Performs other job-related duties, as assigned.
Good working knowledge of the proper care of various surfaces (e.g. carpet, wood, tile) and various cleaning agents/chemicals (including their safe use, circumstances under which the should/should not be used, and possible dangers).
Understanding of hazardous cleaning compounds and the protection required to use them.
Working knowledge of heavier cleaning equipment (e.g. exterior) desired.

Exercise good judgment.
Team-oriented. Interact professionally with all members of the college community.
Possess the ability to comfortably handle the smell and use of the various cleaning chemical used at MSMC for housekeeping duties.
Strong organization and prioritization, customer service, oral communication and interpersonal skills.
Bilingual fluency in both Spanish and English is required.
High school diploma or equivalent GED
Two (2) years of housekeeping experience; including directing the work of others, in an academic setting preferred.
