Aseptically set up, prime, initiate, manage and discontinue ECLS systems on all patient populations, ages, complex diagnoses while in a full range of patient care settings including surgical, cardiovascular, pediatric cardiothoracic and neonatal intensive care units, adult and pediatric cardiac cath labs, adult and pediatric operating room settings. Participate in ground/air external ECLS transports.
ECLS charge responsibilities, monitoring/triaging ECLS referrals, orchestrating and monitoring daily ECLS operations, ECLS reference to nursing and medical leads within the clinical settings.
Must be able to perform a wide range of physical activities which include moving, transporting and positioning patients and equipment as well as constantly positioning self to provide patient care and related duties.

Completion of the U of M ECMO Specialist Training Course
Obtain bedside competency within 12 weeks post-course
ACLS or PALS certification.
Must have current Michigan Respiratory Therapist license.
At least 3 years of current ICU experience.
Minimum 1 year experience in orchestrating daily departmental clinical operations.
Reasonable knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and surgery pertaining to ECMO
Self motivation, independence and initiative are required qualities along with a willingness and interest in learning new procedures and applications of ECLS support.
To accept above stated duties and also take on charge responsibilities upon completion of orientation.
