The Pediatrics Allergy/Immunologist and Rheumatologist Division is looking for a clinical nurse under the title of Clinical Coordinator II - RN to join our team in a full time position. Columbia University Medical Center's Department of Pediatrics is a world leader in providing care for children. Our mission areas include Healthcare, Education and Research. We also have several active Clinical trials available to our patients. This position will support the department by providing Clinical service and input to the Division of Allergy and Immunology's Staten Island location. The Clinical Coordinator II-RN role will be part of an interdisciplinary team dedicated to the development of a sustained environment of excellence in patient/family centered service.
Responsible for the coordinating and the provision of clinical care in the Staten Island Allergy practice in the out-patient setting, which includes:
Provide patient Education
review emergency action plan
perform Epipen training
medication dosage and schedule
basic food avoidance measures
asthma MDI training
Review of asthma action plan
Perform in-office test-prep(s), place and obtain results for interpretation
food and drug challenges
allergy skin tests
Administer Shots and vaccines
Mix and manage patient serums
Manage patient lab results, which involves signing off on all normal test results and escalating all abnormal to the Physicians' attention
Obtain lab reports as needed for providers, file/upload lab reports in the EMR system
Enter patient data into the EMR system and maintain the EMR database consistently
Forward test results to referring physicians and patients/their parents as requested
Pre-authorizations for supplies and medications as needed
Assist the Physicians' in the exam room
Coverage for MA
Prepare and label Specimens with Clinical data and document when needed
Triage patient calls and cover service calls, as needed
Contact pharmacy for patient prescriptions, refills
Ensure service excellence by becoming thoroughly familiar with the Seven Pillars of Behavior and putting them into practice in carrying out job responsibilities
Adhere to all applicable HIPAA, billing compliance and safety guidelines
As needed, may require cross coverage for other RN's in the allergy team in offsite locations.
Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
The primary location for this position is in Staten Island, NY. You will be require to travel at times for meetings at NYC and to provide RN cross coverage when needed.
Requires bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus four years of related experience
Previous experience with pediatric populations and asthma is preferred
Must have a NYS RN License.
Must be able to work in a fast-paced and diverse environment, and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills
Must have strong time management skills, strong multi-tasking abilities and the ability to exercise good judgement
