The Birnbaum lab is seeking to fill a part-time assistant researcher position for a project on maize single cell analysis. The salary for the position is $20/hr for 20 hours per week. The start date is Sept. 28.
The candidate should have an undergraduate degree in some field of biology. A master's degree is preferred.
The NSF project seeks to develop single-cell RNA-seq assays in maize roots for use in basic developmental questions and ultimately for plant breeding. The project will also entail using CRISPR mediated genome editing in maize.
Qualifications being sought are several years of experience working with growing maize plants in a laboratory setting and in a greenhouse. In addition, experience in plant cell culture and transient transformation is needed, preferably in maize. Basic microscopy skills are also a plus. The researcher hired for the position will help a postdoc with various steps in the protocol working closely with the postdoc.
