The Division of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity is a partner in the university learning community. Education is enhanced, both inside and outside of the classroom, through high-impact programs and services that advance student learning, development and success.
The Associate Vice President oversees, supervises and provides leadership to the following areas: Student Rights & Responsibilities, Inclusive SDSU, and Office of the Student Ombudsman.
The Associate Vice President supervises a student-focused team, comprised of the managers of the above departments and programs. The Associate Vice President works in close partnership with other University leaders to ensure that programs and services in Student Affairs and Campus Diversity are aligned with those of other key areas and with the University’s Strategic Plan. The Associate Vice President is responsible for the development of strong partnerships with Academic Affairs, Business and Financial Affairs, University Relations and Development, General Counsel, and community partners that promote and enhance student success at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Associate Vice President is also responsible for developing strong relationships with the Student Ability Success Center, Guardian Scholars, Veteran’s Center, and Student Health Services. In addition, the Associate Vice President is responsible for ensuring that the Office of the Ombudsman has strong working relationships with the University Senate, Academic Affairs, Assistant Deans for Student Affairs, and Counseling and Psychological Services. The Associate Vice President is responsible for ensuring that the Center for Student Rights and Responsibilities has strong working relationships with the Residential Education Office, Student Life and Leadership, Risk Management, Counseling and Psychological Services, Title IX, and University Police. The Associate Vice President is also responsible for ensuring that Inclusive SDSU has strong relationships with Associated Students, Student Life and Leadership, Residential Education Office, Assistant Deans for Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, and Counseling and Psychological Services.
The Associate Vice President is responsible for student services and programs that have a direct impact on student learning, growth and development, persistence to graduation, and overall success. The Associate Vice President will also work collaboratively with other colleagues to ensure that all new students have a smooth transition to and successful college experience while at the University, enhance student involvement/participation in university organizations, and promote racial, ethnic, and cultural appreciation and equity. The Associate Vice President promotes student engagement in transformational experiences, responsible citizenship, builds an inclusive community, and strengthens connections to support student success.
We are seeking an experienced student services leader. The ideal candidate will possess:
Deep understanding or expertise in regulatory compliance, specifically in the areas of Title IX, FERPA, HIPPA, and student conduct and judicial affairs.
A demonstrated record of success in equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Advanced degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution of higher education.
A minimum of 10 years of successful and progressively responsible administrative experience in higher education at the director level or above OR any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been acquired.
Significant professional and management experience at the director level or above in Student Affairs and Campus Diversity Administration preferably within a comprehensive college or university with a diverse student population.
Experience supervising staff in a collective bargaining environment.

This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, at-will position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. but may vary based on operational needs.
