The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine in the Department of Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Research Scientist/Engineer 2.
Working under the general direction of the principal investigator, the Research Scientist 2 (1.0 FTE) will utilize lung biology knowledge to conduct extramurally funded research with the goal of identifying key elements of the innate immune response to lung infections using in vitro based systems employing gene knock-out and mutant protein expression.
The candidate will be expected to perform meticulous laboratory procedures to identify cell-signaling pathways regulating lung inflammation and injury using in vitro and in vivo models. Duties include:
Conduct of laboratory experiments
Develop cell based assays, including the development of new cell lines with knock-down, deletion and mutant protein expression. Experience with cell transfection/transduction, cloning, crispr cas9 desired. Studies will also involve performing western blots, RT-PCR, and co-immunprecipitation.
Develop new assays.
Contribute to protocol development and updates.
Laboratory and Data Management:
Maintain meticulous experiment and procedure records.
Analyze and synthesize data, prepare data for publications and grant reporting/submissions.
Provide training to new laboratory members including students.

Bachelor's degree in biology or related field with 2 years of relevant experience.
Experience with tissue culture/sterile technique and general molecular immunology methods; proficiency with statistical and graphing software, must be comfortable working with animals.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
