UW Medical Center - Montlake has an outstanding opportunity for an Assistant Nurse Manager to join the Digestive Health Center. This position supports providers in the Digestive Health Center (DHC) caring for a specialized group of patients with Gastrointestinal (GI) conditions. This is a unique role within the department – it is specialized to both clinical and pre- post procedure care and provides the candidate with a range of duties and a level or responsibility that encourages professional collaboration, growth and development. This position also supports and works in conjunction with the operations of the DHC.
Registered Nurses perform duties under general direction. RN provides patient care and coordination of services through assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation of safe, therapeutic care. Communicates with providers and team members about patient’s clinical condition, including symptoms and results of diagnostic tests. Completes follow-up as directed by provider. As a member of the health care team, the Registered Nurse helps to create a culture of professional excellence and helps to maintain an environment that respects cultural, economic, and ethnic and lifestyle differences of patients and staff. General supervision is provided by the manager or designee.
SCHEDULE Full-time. Day shift.
RESPONSIBILITIES Participates in the provision of health care services to patients attending the Digestive Health Center
Supervises the Clinical Operations and Case Management Team
Performs/Participates in annual evaluations
Collaborates with the department manager to complete or facilitate the performance review process. Mentors staff in the utilizing the peer review process.
Promotes a high functioning environment that fosters continuing learning and professional development such as assisting staff in identifying and meeting their ongoing educational needs.
Promotes shared unit based practice decision making and demonstrates the ability to collaborate, compromise and fully support decisions made at the unit and nursing leadership levels.
Demonstrates ability to provide “just in time” feedback to staff regarding clinical performance, interpersonal team interactions, and patient/family communication.
Demonstrates the ability to foster a healthy work environment such as resolving conflicts tactfully, using appropriate channels for escalation for unresolved issues, and demonstrating professionalism in day to day activities.
Coordinates orientation and mentoring of staff. Develops mentors and evaluates effectiveness of unit based preceptors.
Collaborates with the Department manager in managing day to day operations.
Demonstrates understanding of Evidence Based Practices and identifies resources to assist with clinical decision making
Explains role to patients and families
Assesses physical and psychosocial care needs of patients and family across the continuum of care
Identifies learning needs and appropriate educational resources
Provides telephone triage and consultations to patients with problems related to GI condition/procedure
Patient education on medication regimes and the administration of the medications
Coordinates home health and other referral
Provides pre and post clinic visit telephone contact to patients, families and referring physicians
Provides Nursing Care to patients in clinic
Participates in the process of providing information for financial support including the appeal process
Contributes to the development, implementation and function of the DHC
Assists with the development of standards, policies and procedures for the DHC
Evaluates quality of service being provided to patients and implements changes required
Assists in the development, implementation, evaluation and revision of caremaps
Reviews pertinent literature regarding GI patients.
Demonstrates understanding of billing practices
Perform related duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
LEGAL REQUIREMENTS Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Washington.
DESIRED BSN strongly preferred. Two years GI experience desired. Demonstrated computer experience on PC or PC compatible using a variety of software programs especially Word, Outlook and EPIC.
