- Reviewing records, diagnostic assessments, symptom monitoring, care management, and care coordination, evaluating and recording progress with respect to treatment goals, and ongoing collaboration with the patient’s care team while drawing on social work experience and ongoing assessment of patient needs.
- Participating in weekly team meetings and ongoing, frequent formal and informal consultations with the care team. This will require preparation, accurate and up-to-date patient records, and the ability to make case presentations accurately and concisely.
- Working directly with patients both face-to-face and by phone contact.
- Brief therapeutic interventions drawing on evidence-based psychotherapies, psychoeducation, safety planning, assisting family members in understanding and supporting the patient, and referrals to community resources are some of the skills needed in this position.
- Teaching students, faculty and staff about what services a social worker can provide and how to access those services.
- A Master's degree in Social Work from a school accredited by the Council of Social Work Education.
- A current license to practice social work in the State of Michigan or the ability to obtain a license in Michigan.
-Previous experience with dental, medical, and/or mental health social work.
- Skilled in developing rapport and effectively communicating with a diverse patient population.
- Efficient, accurate assessment of patient needs.
- Effective organizational skills, flexibility, self-motivation, the ability to effectively prioritize multiple competing tasks in a dynamic clinic setting.
- Independent, sound decision-making is necessary for success in this position.
- Effective collaboration with a large multi-disciplinary team.

As a member of the University of Michigan School of Dentistry and the Michigan Medicine Department of Social Work you will be a vital member of the teams to help prepare our dental students to work in a diverse and integrated workforce, to help manage patients with simple and complex psychosocial needs and advance awareness of the impact of social determinants on health. In this position, you will address patient and family needs which are often complex and chronic. You will also be providing education and consultation to the interprofessional team on the following topics: motivational interviewing, biopsychosocial considerations including ADHD, anxiety, mood disorders, suicide assessment, communication skills for health care providers, diversity and inclusion.
