We are looking for an extremely skilled individual who will serve as a Program Evaluation Specialist for the Michigan Hospital Medicine Safety Consortium (HMS). The Program Evaluation Specialist will serve as the interface between the Program Directors, Program Manager, Assistant Program Manager, and program participants (hospitals). The position is an integral part of the Coordinating Center for HMS. Currently, HMS has 51 hospitals/program participants with a plan to increase to a total of 63 hospitals in 2021. We also have plans to recruit additional hospitals in the future.
The Michigan Hospital Medicine Safety (HMS) Consortium is a Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network funded Collaborative Quality Initiative. The goal of HMS is to improve the quality of care for hospitalized medical patients across the state of Michigan.
Evaluating and auditing the performance of program participants via site visits and ongoing communication. Communication will include informing the participants of program updates and other items of relevance to the programs.
Taking the lead on establishing consistent data collection, procedures, and reporting for the designated programs. This will involve developing and pilot testing of data collection strategies and tools as well as providing education to the program participants. Suggesting options for improving quality, identifies potential problems, recommends and implements solutions.
Identifying issues preventing the program participants from functioning at high levels of performance and working with the participants to resolve these issues. The Program Evaluation Specialist must be responsive to the needs and concerns of the program participants.
Collaborating with the HMS database administrator to perform basic data management such assisting with the modifications/new builds of the data entry system in which hospitals submit data, etc.
Perform data quality control.
Conduct preliminary and basic data analysis.
Collaborating with physician leads, statisticians, data analysts and other members of the team to drive projects forward to completion.
Presenting on key aspects of the programs in public forums.
Bachelor’s degree in a health care-related field or quality
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a health care setting
Demonstrated knowledge of program evaluation, process improvement and/or outcomes measurement is essential.
Excellent interpersonal skills as demonstrated in oral, written and presentation formats
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to plan, conduct, manage, and prioritize tasks, while working independently to complete assignments
Strong computer skills including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Individual must be able to travel to meetings and to member hospitals across the state. Travel can be up to 1-2 times a week during certain times of the year.
This position is located at the NCRC campus, but currently will be working remotely until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The hours are 40 hours per week.
Master’s degree in a health care field or quality is preferred.
Experience in an inpatient healthcare setting is highly desirable.
Working knowledge of University policies and procedures is desired.
Experience with survey methodology and preparation as well as public speaking are desired
