The Senior Building & Grounds position is responsible to perform general custodial tasks from detailed instructions at various residence halls as required. Acts as lead worker for Building and Grounds Workers in the performance of custodial and grounds duties. Gives work instructions to regular and part-time student help. Adjusts work schedule as needed for weekday and week-end coverage and in case of absences.
This position reports directly to the Facilities Operations Supervisor in the assigned facility.
Responsibilities: Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Cleaning (75%): Performs routine, institutional cleaning within assigned areas of University Residence Halls such as residence rooms, offices, lobbies, bathrooms, hallways, stairwells, and other public and private areas using industrial strength cleaning products and heavy duty industrial cleaning equipment. Sweeps, mops, strips and refinishes floors; vacuums and cleans carpets and walk-off mats; and washes windows, walls and other painted surfaces; empties waste baskets, trash receptacles and recycling containers. Replenishes bathroom supplies such as filling soap and toilet paper dispensers. Assembles, disassembles and makes beds. Collects and distributes linens and toiletries for summer conferences. Performs minor grounds work such as sweeping and power washing sidewalks, docks and trash holding areas. Sweeps and shovels snow and debris from sidewalks and steps when required. Changes light bulbs and cleans lighting fixtures which can be reached by a 12 ft. step ladder.
Leadership (15%): Individuals in this classification acts as lead workers over the other employees. Plans or schedules work, make assignments, train and instruct, review performance, or otherwise direct other employees. Adjusts schedules are required. Work is reviewed by a supervisor.
Loading, Unloading supplies and Moving Furniture (5%): Stocks supplies and maintains supply distribution areas and custodial closet. Moves furniture, office equipment, tables, benches, chairs, supplies and various kinds of heavy equipment.
Other (5%): Observes deficiencies in building hardware, doors, windows, and other facilities. Turns deficiency list in for maintenance and repair. Launders mops, rags and other items and returns to storage area.
Work Environment: Work is typically performed inside the building but may perform work outside.
Salary: $17.50 per hour
This position is located at Bailey Hall.
Minimum Qualifications: (Knowledge, skills and abilities)
Ability to read, write and comprehend English. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis and meet the other physical requirements of the position. Three years of experience in building and grounds work. Demonstrate ability to work with others. Experience in leading others. This position must pass a criminal background check.
