Conducts tests & procedures. Sets up & operates equipment. Records observations & measurements & collects & compiles data in a research lab. Requires a practical understanding of a limited number of standard scientific techniques.
This technician will be tasked with building the software for acquisition and analysis of behavioral data in freely moving mice, integrating video feeds from 4 cameras and audio from an ultrasonic microphone. This individual will also incorporate optogenetic control into the behavioral system. The technician will also be responsible for ongoing support of our SQL data analysis environment and our Python-based website.
1. Follows pre-defined protocols, policies, procedure, regulations, Good Clinical and Good Laboratory Practices and conducts standard and repetitive
2. Sets-up, operates and maintains standard lab equipment.
3. Using an entry level of skill, completes the following activities:
Softwaredevelopment for real-time video and audio acquisition
Development of behavioral data analysis pipeline including pose estimation
Development of optogenetics control software incorporated with video and audio data.
Maintenance and periodic upgrades of lab SQL database and website at rgctypes.org
4. Records test results and may maintain databases
5. Completes standard and routine clerical duties such as copying, filing, data entry, word processing, etc.
6. Maintains inventory of reagents, mice and lab supplies
7. Completes other duties as assigned
HS diploma or equivalent and some basic science courses are required
Command of basic programing programs
Interest and basic knowledge of sensory and systems neuroscience.
BS or MS in Neurobiology or related field
Skills in MATLAB and Python, modern data science techniques including machine learning, dimensionality reduction, and signal processing
