Monitors and ensures data center power, cooling, network and space capacity availability and provides input for continued University business needs. Assists with IDF, MDF, and data center design for updates and new builds. Ensures infrastructure compliance with established standards.
Ensures IDFs, MDFs, and data centers are able to provide sufficient power, cooling, and resiliency for infrastructure needs. Coordinates UPS, power, and generator testing with internal teams and vendors. Reviews network and space capacity and designs updates and new builds for IDF, MDF, and data center needs. Ensures IDF, MDF, and data center compliance to standards. Escalates compliance issues to management as needed. Coordinates access and reviews entry records for data center facilities. Provides data for physical security audits. Maintains a strong understanding of emerging practices in data center infrastructure, data center operations, and related technologies. Mentors new staff and ensures knowledge transfer. Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in networking, electrical technology, or a related technical field, or the equivalent experience. Seven plus (7+) years of electrical, mechanical/HVAC or controls experience in a network or data center environment. One or more of the following certifications: BICSI Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD); BICSI Data Center Design Consultant (DCDC).
IDCA Data Center Operations Specialist (DCOS) certification. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLSANDABILITIES: Ability to lift and move 50 lbs of equipment; work on platforms, ladders and under raised floors. Ability to work within a hybrid development, engineering, and support team. Ability to collaborate with team members, staff, and customers. Ability to provide excellent customer service. Skilled in communicating effectively both orally and in written form to a variety of constituents at varying levels of authority within the organization. Ability to think intuitively and analytically to break down and resolve problems. Ability to read, understand, and follow high-level policies and guidelines and apply those guidelines to daily responsibilities. Ability to work proactively and independently. Ability to exercise good judgment and make sound decisions. Ability to pay close attention to detail and work under pressure. Ability to analyze system components and support options. Ability to be a forward, creative, positive, and flexible thinker.
