UW Facilities manages the University’s buildings, infrastructure and land, with more than 1,100 employees in a variety of fields. The Asset Management group includes Capital & Space Management, Real Estate, Sustainability and other teams responsible for planning and workload management. Business Innovation & Technology (BIT) has an outstanding opportunity for a Service Desk Specialist to join our great team. This position provides value to our staff by enabling them to complete their duties through the use of technology. The Service Desk Specialist provides end-user hardware and software Tier 1 support by email, phone, and in person to UW Facilities staff, and in some cases campus personnel outside of UW Facilities. Candidates in this role must have excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
•Configure, and deploy computer hardware and software following the University’s best practices. •Assess the customer technology needs, provide recommendations, and coordinate purchases. •Manage user accounts and groups. •Apply policies, and procedures regarding identity and access management. •Support mobile devices, including but not limited to tablets and UW-owned mobile phones. •Document, track, and manage support requests received via email, phone, or in-person. •Document policies and processes for the team. •Ensure customer satisfaction by providing successful and timely resolution of all support requests. •Assist in developing and maintaining departmental hardware and software inventory. •Monitor systems and assist with identifying potential service disruptions. •Provide technology training for Facilities staff across multiple disciplines and trades. •Cross-train other IT support staff when necessary. •Research, identify, and communicate potential security risks. •Consult with users to ensure with UW Cybersecurity best practices. •Stay current on emerging technologies by reading industry publications, attending seminars and classes, developing relationships with vendors and peers, evaluating software and products. •Demonstrate accountability for own professional growth and competency by seeking opportunities and activities that provide for skill development and self-improvement. •Comply with all the University’s health, safety, and security procedures and report any deviations. •Communicate with other IT teams to triage, troubleshoot, resolve, and/or escalate issues. •Emergency response may be required during hours beyond standard business hours including weekends.

•Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or Computer Science. •Two to three years of relevant experience. •Hands-on experience supporting computer hardware, software, networks, conference room equipment. •Experience with a variety of platforms including Microsoft, Apple, HP, Avaya, and others. •Exceptional customer service skills, organizational skills, and verbal and written communication skills. •Understanding of TCP/IP networks and network troubleshooting skills. •Willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to changes.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
•Experience supporting business environments in higher education, building management, and/or construction. •Experience supporting software rollouts for a large organization. •Experience with Microsoft SCCM. •MS SharePoint experience. •MS Teams experience. •ITIL v3 or v4 Foundation certification or willingness to certify within one year of employment. •CompTIA A+ / Network+ / Security+ certification. •Microsoft certifications. •Valid driver’s license for the state of Washington.
