Department: Ctr for Comparative Medicine Salary/Grade: EXS/7
The Assistant Manager of Quality Assurance & Training supports and encourages the continuing education and training of CCM staff and research personnel through weekly classes and training sessions. Helps ensure that CCM is in compliance with all Federal, state, and local guidelines and AAALAC recommendations.
Regular travel between the Evanston and Chicago Campuses will be required.
Assists the Manager Quality Assurance and Training with the administration and implementation of CCM’s training programs.
Prepare and conduct Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT), Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) and Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATg) classes on both the Chicago and Evanston campuses.
Prepare and conduct training sessions for animal care staff in the areas of laboratory animal science, species specific information, standard operating procedures, human resources, and CCM policies and procedures, etc.
Prepare and conduct orientation programs and training sessions for new CCM and research staff including: hands-on courses, species specific courses, facility entry procedures, and non-human primate orientation, etc.
Manage the day-to-day administration of the CCM Employee Recognition program.
Assists the Manager of Quality Assurance and Training with the implementation and administration of CCM’s Quality Assurance program.
Conduct water sample collection, update and maintain records for all CCM lab animal facilities.
Collect, update and maintain records for microbial monitoring for all CCM lab animal facilities.
Provides support of the Occupational Health Program to ensure compliance with CCM policies and Federal, State, and local regulatory agency requirements.
Oversees TB testing scheduling, data entry and record maintenance.
Maintain records for injury reports and fax all paperwork to Workman’s Compensation and Research Safety.
Ensure that injuries are dealt with in the appropriate manner and reported appropriately.
Assist with safety training requirement scheduling and employee file data entries.
Assists with the maintenance of records and administration of CCM building security systems and enroll new users.
Maintain CCM Training protocols, submit addenda and annual reviews to the Animal Care and Use Committee; manage training colony animals.
Assist with updates to the CCM website
Assist with the coordination of CCM All Staff meetings
Assist with CCM events.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science or related field
4 years experience in the lab animal field
Certified as a Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS)
Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)
Lab Animal Care
Certified Manager of Animal Resources (CMAR) from the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) OR Graduate of the Institute for Laboratory Animal Management (ILAM)
Knowledge of and/or experience working with Quality Assurance or Good Laboratory Practices
Experience in a teaching or training environment
5 years experience in the lab animal field.
