SHAC Health Services is seeking a Medical Assistant (MA) to join our healthcare team. This position will assist RNs, Physicians, NPs, and PAs in caring for our unique and diverse student population. This position will perform a combination of various administrative and clinical tasks, such as rooming patients; taking vital signs (blood pressure, temperatures, respiratory rates, pulse, O2, weight and heights); and recording medications, allergies, and chief complaints.
The MA supports clinician care by doing basic procedures such as ear lavage, nebulizer treatments, EKG's, Snellen eye exams, setting up rooms, assisting with clinical procedures (insertion/removal of IUDs & Nexplanons, colposcopies, I & D's, suturing, etc.), CLIA waived testing, phlebotomy, collecting specimens and other laboratory duties. The MA is also responsible for ensuring supplies in exam/procedure rooms are stocked and ordering supplies when necessary. This position fits patients for crutches and other orthopedic splints and teaches patients on proper use. In addition, the MA transports patients that need assistance to x-ray (x-ray experience is a plus).
Facility maintenance duties include removing used and non-sterile supplies/instruments from exam, treatment and procedure rooms. Washing and sterilization of instruments, preparing surgical packs, cleaning exam rooms using appropriate disinfectants, and changing linens.
The MA will also assist with referrals, help with phone calls, and assist with insurance questions as needed.
Experience providing health care support in an outpatient facility
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with a focus on patient satisfaction
Ability to take initiative and ask about problems as they arise
Knowledge of medical terminology
Ability to multitask in a team-oriented environment
