Business and Auxiliary Services is seeking an Assistant Buyer for special orders/merchandise. This individual will report to the General Merchandise Buyer for the University Stores and will be responsible for assisting on the sales floor and coordinating general merchandise special orders. The position assumes a role in providing customer service in the general merchandise areas, including engraving, medical supplies, insignia gifts, general gifts, and supplies. While assisting customers in this department, the incumbent will seek to enhance special order service to University departments and individuals and assist them in placing custom gift orders. Incumbent will work with customer through the entire order process from request through delivery to ensure that customer expectations are met in a timely manner.
Custom orders may require multiple contacts, obtaining approval of art/engraving proofs, ordering, invoicing, obtaining requisitions or making payment arrangements, and arranging delivery or pickup. Incumbent will work closely with the General Merchandise Buyers to coordinate the sourcing of merchandise, place orders, and enter purchase orders into the POS system. Incumbent will also be responsible for assisting The Pitt Shop and Maggie & Stella's Cards & Gifts with identifying departmental custom order needs and fulfilling special order requests. Weekend and evening hours required as necessary to accomplish departmental goals and assure coverage for events and during peak times. Other special duties and projects as assigned.
Associate degree preferred and/or 2 years of retail buying experience. Knowledge of retail buying practices, including use of POS systems and sourcing inventory preferred.
