Title of Position – Accelerated Ministry Program Associate
Preparation Date: September 2020
Wartburg College is seeking a part-time Program Associate for the Accelerated Ministry Program with Wartburg Seminary. Bachelor’s degree in Religion or a related field is required. Ministry experience and membership in an ELCA congregation are preferred.
Wartburg Accelerated Ministry Program Overview: The Accelerated Ministry Program (AMP) is designed to reduce the time and cost to become a Lutheran (ELCA) pastor. Normally, this process takes eight years, but this program allows students to finish in six. Program participants receive extensive mentoring and reduced educational costs.
The Wartburg Accelerated Ministry Program is a partnership between Wartburg College and Wartburg Theological Seminary. Students from non-Lutheran traditions are welcome to participate.
The primary responsibility of the Program Associate is to mentor and build community with program participants. Secondary responsibilities include recruiting new students and developing relationships with synods, congregations, ministry leaders, and other senders.
Responsibilities: Subject to review and adjustment in conjunction with the Director of the Accelerated Ministry Program
Monthly one-on-one meetings with students in the program.
Plan and lead monthly community events for AMP students
Help plan and lead two retreats per year.
Assist the Director with recruiting new students for the program.
Assist the Director in building relationships with ministry partners and other senders.
Work with the Marketing coordinator to raise the visibility of the program both on and off-campus
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director
Supervision: This position reports to the Director of the Accelerated Ministry Program.
Bachelor’s degree in Religion or a related field
ELCA background and/or solid understanding and embrace of the Lutheran theological tradition
Experience working with college age students and others discerning a call to ministry
Creative, innovative, flexible, and reliable
Biblically and theologically astute with a willingness to pursue continuing education funded by the program
Membership in an ELCA congregation
