Academic Advisement at Duquesne University is a personalized interaction between students and academic advisors involving a decision-making process by means of which students are guided to realize their maximum academic potential. Drawing from students’ talents and interests, an Academic Advisor guides the development of their plans of study and graduation. Advisors build relationships with students and address any issues which may impede students’ academic progress. Thus an Advisor fosters each student’s academic and personal excellence.
The comprehensive academic advisement system at Duquesne University is decentralized with professional advisors located in their respective schools. Advisors work collaboratively with each other and with the Director of Retention and Advising on many projects, which enhance the student experience at Duquesne and improve each student’s chance for success at the University. Academic Advisors are active members of the professional, national organization NACADA. Advisors maintain contact and communication with University Administration and are an important factor in student retention.
