This position is in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care. This position is for the Medical School Campus.
A major focus of our work involves distinguishing the role of locally-derived complement proteins in the lung from those present in the blood, and how they modulate the development of pneumonia and acute lung injury. We use multiple in vitro and in vivo approaches to dissect the mechanism by which these proteins contribute to cellular survival. We use genetically modified cell lines, as well as primary airway epithelial cells from explant lung tissue to answer these questions. We also use mouse models to study lung injury in the context of pneumonia (done in our laboratory) and ischemia-reperfusion injury occurring after lung transplantation (done in collaboration with the Thoracic Immunobiology lab in the Department of Surgery). Additionally, we draw upon a robust biorepository of lung tissue, bronchoalveolar lavage fluid and plasma specimens from humans to validate our findings (including but not restricted to non-infective plasma from patients with COVID-19). This position assists with the technical aspects of studies and experiments, including documentation and preparation of materials.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists with research studies, experiments and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment.
Performs data entry and maintains data files on research.
Prepares tissue cultures, reagents, probe tests, etc.
Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures.
Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning.
Two years of prior lab experience.
Ability to work with mouse models and cell culture systems.
Organizational and interpersonal skills would be looked upon favorably.
Demonstrated ability to work independently.
Ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports.
Working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment.

Bachelor’s degree and up to one year of experience in a laboratory setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling four years.

The hiring range for this position is $14.07 - $18.99 per hour.
