Under supervision, the Respiratory Therapist functions in setting up and assisting physician in all Interventional Pulmonology (IP) procedures (including rigid and flexible bronchoscopy, EBUS, thoracentesis, ICU procedures and others). Maintain equipment and assure appropriate scope washing compliance and infection control, coordinate internal supply orders, restock and maintain inventory, assist in billing functions and in maintaining unit statistics, assist with administrative tasks in the department.
Administers all general Respiratory Therapy procedures including humidity and aerosol therapy, lung inflation maneuvers, and pulmonary secretion clearance methods. Performs CPR and administers pharmacological agents in accordance with scope of practice and UC San Diego Health System policies and procedures. Performs invasive and non-invasive monitoring and diagnostic techniques ascribed to specific critical care areas. Adheres to IP unit and Health System policies, procedures and core values.
Two (2) year advanced practice RT Education Program/AS Degree.
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) issued by the state of California.
BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
Previous directly related experience in a large complex healthcare setting.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing and be able to articulate complex ideas for all levels of audiences.
Possess the personal characteristics of professionalism, credibility, commitment to high standards, innovation, discriminating judgment and accountability.
Be self-directed and able to work independently with limited supervision; strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
Experience in a Pulmonary Special Procedures Suite/Interventional Pulmonology.
Respiratory Advanced Training (RAT I).
Respiratory Advanced Training (RAT II).
Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on-call and locations based on the 24-hour Medical Center's business needs.
