Essential Job Duties:
The Director of Institutional Analytics leads the university's institutional analytics team in providing evidence, analytics, and internal and external reporting for NC State University. The Director will serve as a key contact for institutional data both with campus stakeholders and the UNC System Office and will help support efforts to ensure that data synthesized from multiple sources is used effectively in building a more data-informed culture and supports a robust data driven decision-making ethos that will advance the university's strategic goals.
The Director will provide effective leadership to the institutional analytics team in ISA and work collaboratively with ISA leadership team to advance continuous improvement of processes and outcomes of institutional analytics.
The Director will join the Institutional Strategy and Analysis team and report to the Senior Vice Provost, Institutional Strategy and Analysis.
Collaborate with ISA leadership to continue efforts to design, develop, implement and maintain comprehensive institutional reporting files, data dashboards and visualizations consistent with the goals and aims of ISA.
Develop, publish and maintain data definitions of reporting files and prepare reports and disseminate information about institutional analytics to the campus community.
Serve as NC State's liaison with the UNC System Office in matters related to the Student Data Mart (SDM). Collaborate internally within ISA and with senior leaders across campus and campus stakeholders to prepare responses to the System Office on datamart issues (including human resources and financials).
Be responsive to institution-wide assessment and reporting requests from the Office of Assessment and Accreditation that are based on SACSCOC requirements
Provide consistent and comprehensive responses that represent NC State to external surveys such as IPEDS, Common Dataset, AAUP faculty salary survey as well as national and international rankings surveys.
Collaborate with others to implement university policies and procedures for data governance.
Develop a balanced level of response to campus needs through the strategic development of focused dashboards and supplemental ad hoc reports as needed.
Work with ISA leadership to build collaborative networks across campus inclusive of data stewards, stakeholders and campus leaders to support the needs and requests of external surveys and data request.
Improve the effectiveness of the institutional analytics function of ISA through continuous evaluation and assessment of processes and outcomes.
Supervise and oversee institutional research team (e.g., staff, graduate students and/or temporary employees) allocating tasks in an equitable manner that promotes team building and helps team members develop additional analytics expertise.
Work in a dynamic environment and be responsive to changing goals, priorities, and university needs as articulated in other duties as assigned.
Require post-baccalaureate credentials or a bachelor's degree plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.
The ability to interpret and transform data into relevant and usable information. Experience with data visualization software (e.g., SAS VA, Tableau) and data story telling. Strong proficiency in data warehousing, data mining, enterprise reporting and statistical software (preferably SAS). Knowledge of national higher education issues and trends and related uses of institutional data. Ability to maintain confidentiality with highly sensitive or controversial issues. Working knowledge of or ability to quickly learn NC State (data governance, academic structure and campus infrastructure, protocols, policies and procedures). Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to resolve questions or conflicts consistent with existing data governance standards, principles of collaboration and institutional effectiveness are essential.
Ability to provide ethical leadership characterized by good judgment, professionalism, tact, diplomacy, discretion and a focus on team work.
Ability to solve complex problems by gathering data, reasoning logically, drawing valid conclusions, and writing clear and concise reports.
Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with diverse constituencies
Experience managing complex projects.
Ability to manage multiple projects and strict deadlines while maintaining a high degree of accuracy.
Familiarity with complex, decentralized research institutions.
Prefer candidate with Ph.D. in applicable discipline.
