Rutgers University-Newark, an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking a motivated Northwest Regional Director for the New Jersey Small Business Development Center (NJSBDC). Reporting to the Associate State Director of NJSBDC. The Regional Director, under general direction of NJSBDC leadership and in conjunction with host institution mission and programs, is responsible for assessing client needs and providing efficient and effective advice, counsel, and assistance to new and established business owners and potential entrepreneurs. The Director manages, plans and organizes regional Small Business Development Center staff and activities, including satellite locations. Among the key duties of this position are the following: -Provides in-depth consulting services and formal and informal training to current and prospective small business owners with regard to business management practices. -Provides successful team leadership in planning, developing, implementing, and administering training sessions sponsored by the SBDC. -Oversees and direct SBDC functions and staff in achieving state and federal mandated goals of new and established businesses, jobs created, etc., -Recruits instructors and consultants and provide appropriate supervision, coordination, and evaluation of faculty and personnel hired for programs and activities. -Participates actively in appropriate collegiate, business, and community-based organizations to establish partnerships that will enhance the planning and development of services and programs. Travel among regional campuses is required. This position is grant funded.
Minimum Education and Experience:
-Bachelor's degree in Business or Finance, or equivalent. -A minimum of five (5) years of management experience, small business management and/or SBDC–related consulting experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
-A thorough understanding of small business issues and/or experience in economic development. -Strong financial, analytical skills and excellent written/oral communications skills. -Strong organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills. -Ability to work and interact effectively with businesses, economic development agencies, chambers of commerce, NJSBDC, SBA, and regional personnel. -Strong computer skills/literacy. Knowledgeable in MS Office suite of software and Outlook. -Ability to implement continuous quality improvement in a customer focused environment. -Ability to travel to client and SBDC sites, events.
-The Regional Director will regularly use a computer with MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook, and Internet Explorer. The NSBDC IC System the Regional Center will be addressed as a Specialty Program for use by the entire project staff.
Must have access to transportation, and flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and longer days, as required.
