The Vollum Institute is a privately endowed research institute at Oregon Health & Science University dedicated to basic research that will lead to new treatments for neurological and psychiatric diseases. Vollum scientists have broad-ranging interests that coalesce around molecular neurobiology and cellular physiology. Their work has transformed the field of neuroscience and, in particular, have provided important advances in the study of synaptic transmission, neuronal development, neurotransmitter transporters, ion channels and the neurobiology of disease.
The purpose of the position is to perform research consistent with the goals of the PI, Dr. Tianyi Mao, specifically regarding the structure-function relationship of the brain circuits and how it changes under different brain states and environment.
Under the PIs supervision, independently design, implement and perform experiments and data analysis; Provide high level of intellectual contributions to the scientific goals of the PIs group.
Training in manuscript writing of the appointees research work, grant writing, high quality presentations in lab meetings and journal clubs, and active participation in Vollum scientific events.
Assist with training graduate students and other associates in the lab as appropriate, as well as assist with general lab operations and maintenance.
Ph.D. or M.D degree.
0-3 years relevant experience prior to or after obtaining the graduate degree.
First hand experience with in vivo recording techniques, animal behavioral experiments, and computation/programing.
Ability to learn novel and cutting edge techniques and thrive in solving challenging problems in a supportive environment.
