The Rehab Medicine and Rehab Therapies Clinic has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time, day shift, MEDICAL ASSISTANT. The Medical Assistant (MA) will assist the medical, nursing, and therapy staff by performing delegated tasks that involve direct patient care including technical procedures or monitoring that may be invasive and require skills validations.
Assist during patient examinations and procedures
Administer medications in compliance with WA State Department of Health after successfully completing the competency skills validation in the clinic
Provide hands on assistance to patient during therapeutic activities directed by therapist
Greet patients and families and provide the best patient experience possible
Demonstrate an atmosphere/attitude of respect for human dignity and the uniqueness of each person encountered in the clinic setting
Promote and protect general safety for patients/families/friends and co- workers through adherence to correct procedures, timely communication of messages and test results, and appropriate consultation
Support development of clinic and divisional efficiency and effectiveness through participation in quality assessment and improvement activities
Promote and contribute to the development of our team in clinic and working relationships between the clinic and other departments/disciplines
Participate in orientation of new staff and preceptorship of MA students
Ensure exam rooms and rehabilitation gym are stocked, clean and ready for patients
Prepare patient for care team by rooming patient, taking vitals, opening patient encounter related to multi-disciplinary visit, schedule urgent add- on testing and exiting patient from exam room
Prepare medical record for clinic visit
Pre-authorize necessary medications, procedures, and testing, call patients with appointment reminders for clinic and related testing, and call patients with normal test results
Coordinate communication flow in the clinic including answering and directing telephone inquiries to the appropriate individual
Facilitate patient low in the clinic by rooming patients in all clinics on floor as needed
Provide basic telephone screening per clinic protocols and recognize emergent/urgent problems and direct to the nurse or physician
Coordinate clerical patient care activities and/or specialized technical duties to ensure accurate and expedited patient check-in and discharge
Support physician providers and multi-disciplinary team members (4-6 in addition to the MD provider) per clinic needing support and coordination
Take initiative to maintain patient flow
Transport patients and lab specimens
Complete billing documents as appropriate
Schedule appointments for patients
Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS: Completion of a Medical Assistant course accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or other recognized regional or national accreditation board; OR equivalent education/experience.
LEGAL REQUIREMENT: Must be Washington State Medical Assistant-Certified or achieve this designation during the probationary period. Failure to achieve and/or maintain this designation will result in termination of employment.
