The Medical Technologist will provide laboratory services required to maintain adequate testing services for students including those with signs and symptoms of COVID related illness. This position is funded through the CARES Act/MSI funding and is available on as needed basis for the 2020 â“ 2021 academic year (May 2021).
Performs laboratory testing in moderate and high complexity testing.
Â Follows laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient results and Â operates test systems.
Troubleshoots test systems and takes appropriate action when indicated. Â
Utilizes job knowledge, judgment and problem solving skills to ensure quality by following established policies and procedures for quality control performance and documentation.
Performs and documents scheduled and unscheduled preventative maintenance.
Â Identifies problems which may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and takes appropriate action including supervisory notification if indicated.
Follows all safety, infection control and blood borne pathogen guidelines. Participates in laboratory quality assurance programs.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Bachelorâ™s degree and Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP), Medical Technologist (ASCP), or Medical Technologist (AMT) certification
No experience required with above qualifications.
Associateâ™s degree and Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP or AMT) certification plus two years of related work experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of typical laboratory equipment. Knowledge of statistical methods.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Oral and written communication skills.
Required Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses: Medical Technologist (ASCP or AMT) certification, Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP), or Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP or AMT) certification.
Completed training in a hospital/outpatient setting.
Performed QC/QA work independently within the last two years.
Previous supervisory experience.
Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP) certification.
Phlebotomist Technician (ASCP) certification within the last five years.
