Hobart William Smith Colleges: Education: Warren Hunting Smith Library
The Access Services and Discovery Librarian contributes to the library by delivering a seamless experience to users regarding the access and discovery of library resources and services. This position will play an integral role in developing workfows and services that enhance access to our rich print and electronic collections for a culturally diverse residential community at Hobart and William Smith Colleges.
Will manage the day-to-day operations of the circulation desk, reserves & ILL.
Works in collaboration with library staff, faculty, and students to develop, implement and assess policies, practices and technologies designed to enhance library resource discovery, scholarly collaboration and research support.
The incumbent will develop a deep knowledge of the current ILS and discovery layer technologies and will be able to proactively provide expertise and train staff in these areas.
Participates actively in the ongoing planning and implementation of strategies for the discovery of library resources and services by faculty and students.
Works on a wide variety of projects, both individual and collaborative in scope - identifies ways to improve, extend, and integrate the libraries’ various search tools, wayfinding materials, and online environments.
In concert with the collections librarian, works with vendors to troubleshoot access problems and maintain currency with vendors' updated technologies and systems.
Identifies, evaluates, and stays current with emerging trends, resources, practices and standards in access and discovery to enhance library services.
Master’s degree in Library or Information Science or equivalent.
Familiarity with library technology standards and protocols.
Working knowledge of integrated library systems (ILS), link resolver software, electronic resource management systems and discovery interfaces.
Excellent communication skills – written, oral, and interpersonal.
3 years (minimum) of library experience, preferably in an academic library.
Some knowledge of cataloging standards.
Ability to adapt to change; to plan, implement and assess projects.
Ability to work collaboratively in a complex environment.
Strong customer service skills as well as a positive approach to problem solving.
Experience working with a diverse public.
Familiarity with Atlas Systems’ ILLIAD and ARES functionality.
Familiarity with the SUMMON over ALMA environment.
