Under the administrative guidance of the of the Nurse Practitioner/Medical Director, this position provides direct care to the full time undergraduate population at New England College. This is a full-time, 10 1/2-month position.
• Perform telephone triage and in-person student assessments to evaluate nature and severity of medical problems; use of standing orders for assessment and treatment; determine when to schedule appointment with NP or refer to ER/Urgent Care; • Provide or facilitate follow-up care within the Wellness Center or other campus resources as well as referrals to off-campus health care providers; • Coordinate lab tests: collect and prepare specimens and send to lab; screen lab test results and route to NP, flagging highly important results; follow up by notifying student with results. Schedule follow up health service appointments; • Dispense medications to patients as per Health Services guidelines and standing orders, call in prescriptions to pharmacies per NP or standing orders; administer immunizations; • Assist NP with procedures and examinations; • Assist with set up and general maintenance of exam rooms, including stocking rooms as needed, lab areas, order/ track supplies and communicate needs with the Medical Director; • Primary coordinator for NH Immunization Program; maintains immunization stock and files necessary reports with the NH Immunization Program; assists with immunization clinics; • Keep accurate and up-to-date health records on all undergraduate students: verify student health records for completeness, and follow up on any missing information as needed; • Collaborate with medical, counseling and other NEC staff to provide outreach programming and health education for the NEC community; • Assist with collection of statistical data for Health Services Quality Assurance and other reports.
• Associate’s Degree in Nursing, Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, preferred; • Licensed Registered Nurse in NH; • Minimum 5 years’ RN experience in primary care or pediatrics clinic, experience in college health, preferred; • Strong clinical and communication skills; • Phlebotomy skills, preferred; • Strong knowledge about health issues specific to young adults; • Ability to function independently within the RN scope of practice; • Ability to appropriately triage; • Effective communication skills; • Comfortable working in a fast-paced office; • Occasional weekend and evening hours as needed.
