A postdoctoral scholar position is available in the Division of Cardiology, Department of Medicine at the University of Washington to study the pathogenesis of genetic and acquired cardiomyopathies using rodent and cellular models. This is a full-time Postdoctoral Scholar position on an annual, 12-month appointment. Postdoctoral scholars are represented by UAW 4121 and are subject to the collective bargaining agreement, unless agreed exclusion criteria apply. The postdoctoral scholar will be engaging in an exciting, collaborative project at UW medicine South Lake Union. We collaborative with investigators from the Institute for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine (ISCRM), Center for Cardiovascular Biology (CCB), Center for Translational Muscle Research (CTMR) and Departments of Pathology and Bioengineering at the University of Washington. Our group is interested in how cardiomyocytes remodel in acquired and genetic cardiomyopathies. The project involves using molecular and biomechanical assays to understanding how cardiomyocytes remodel and use novel methods to improve cardiac function via gene delivery or small molecules. The assays used in our group span from isolated myosin motors to myofibrils, multicellular preparation
The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree relevant to biological science. Experience in the cardiovascular field is preferred, but not required. The successful applicant will design and perform experiments, write manuscripts and participate in Departmental and extramural scholarly activities. The ideal candidate will have excellent technical and communication skills and willingness to work well with others.
