The Instructional Technologist provides support with instructional design, as well as, training in the use of instructional technologies for all Columbia Law School faculty, faculty assistants and administrative staff involved with various aspects of the curriculum. The incumbent will liaise with instructional designers at the Columbia Center for Teaching and Learning in order to stay abreast of new pedagogical models, best practices in teaching and learning at the Law School, and the latest innovations in educational technology. As a core pillar of the Instructional and Event Technology (IET) team at the Law School, the incumbent works closely with the rest of the IET team to ensure that instructors have the right combination of technological resources best suited to helping them achieve their pedagogical aims.
This position works closely with the Director of Instructional and Event Technology, the Office of the Registrar, the Vice Dean for Curriculum, and its ancillary curricular committees, all of which support Columbia faculty, lecturers, researchers and post-doctoral fellows. The incumbent works in a highly interactive and collaborative environment to assist with the application of pedagogically-sound technologies for course creation and enhancement. This position provides support for Law School and University-supported technologies, such as including but not limited to: lecture capture software, video creation, web conferencing tools and learning management systems.
Collaborate with faculty and staff on the use of relevant instructional technology techniques and the application of educational technology tools to enhance student learning within traditional classroom environments, as well as, flipped and blended classrooms, distance learning courses and "hyflex" pedagogical models.
Develop plans for applying educational practices and technology to specific learning or teaching problems. Provide support to instructors in the creation and implementation of course websites using learning management systems, specifically Canvas.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to Canvas and other educational technologies for faculty, staff, and students. Such technological offerings may include: Echo360 and Panopto (and other asynchronous recording and active learning platforms), Zoom and MS Teams (and other synchronous technologies), online discussion groups, polling software.
Collaborate with other members of the IET Team on the use and training of in-classroom technologies, such as: microphones, smart document cameras, annotation devices, wireless presentation devices, etc.
Create media using a wide range of multimedia software including, but not limited to, audio, video, web, and animation software to develop materials for courses.
Responsible for proposing, developing, planning, coordinating and facilitating learning opportunities and instructional technology.
Leverage emerging educational technologies, learning science research, and learning analytics to design, evaluate and enhance learning experiences.
Collaborate with team members to plan short- and long-term projects and participate in implementing strategic initiatives.
Work on special projects as deemed relevant and be available as needed for technical and other support during critical periods.

Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent required. A minimum of 3-5 years of related experience required.
Experience using web-based learning, authoring, or publication systems.
Experience using synchronous technologies for distance learning and hyflex models of instructions.
Experience using asynchronous recording technologies in order to create supplemental materials, or in support of a flipped-classroom model of instruction.
Demonstrated professional experience in designing and developing teaching and learning materials.
Knowledge of, and ability to apply, the instructional design process, including needs assessment, instructional problems, learner characteristics, task analysis, instructional objectives, content sequencing, instructional strategies and resources, evaluation instruments, formative evaluation, and summative evaluation.
Knowledge of current pedagogy and training in the use of educational technologies for instruction.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks under short and changing deadlines, while ensuring timely and accurate execution.
Proven ability to create project plans and successfully complete projects.
Act as an analytical thinker with the ability to work collaboratively and independently.
Must have the ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion and tact in a highly confidential professional setting.
