Gateway Community and Technical College invites applications for the part-time position of Information Commons Lead.

Our Information Commons (IC) is the central location where individuals can have their questions about Gateway answered. The purpose of the IC is to guide individuals through their time at Gateway, supporting them at every step of the way. 

• Provide excellent customer service, while sharing accurate information with students, staff, faculty and the community
• Connect students and the community to appropriate departments, programs and resources
• Schedule personnel to cover the desk during hours of operation
• Document service provided to the Gateway community by correctly completing Information Commons tickets
• Mentor, train and supervise Information Commons Federal Work-Study students.
• Work with Information Commons staff and students to keep the desk area organized and uncluttered, maintaining a comfortable and safe working environment
• Complete secondary tasks as assigned by department heads
• Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• Associates degree or equivalent in Communications, Library, Business, Computer Technology or related field.
• Strong customer service skills are required.
• Comfortable communicating with a diverse group of people, students, faculty and staff and operate professionally within a collegiate atmosphere.
• The ability to work independently and within a team environment is desirable
• Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
• Experience in and understanding of the importance of working with students from diverse populations. 
• Excellent organizational skills; high attention to detail; independent; self-motivated; able to work in a fast-paced, changing environment. 
• Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate with many individuals at all levels throughout the internal college environment as well as external business and community partners, representing his/her self in a professional and courteous manner.
• Ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally.
• Ability to multi-task, work under deadlines, and prioritize projects to meet deadlines with high levels of efficiency and accuracy. 
• Must have proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in and understanding of the importance of working with students from diverse populations. 
• Experience working at the community college level.
