Reporting directly to the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies oversees centers, institutes, and other initiatives focused on undergraduate affairs for the Office of the Provost. The Vice Provost partners closely with the Vice Provost and Dean of The Graduate School as leaders of student success initiatives on behalf of the Provost.

The Vice Provost will possess a comprehensive resume of success in academic leadership roles, with exceptional skills that will enable them to support the academic needs of University of Connecticut undergraduates. The Vice Provost role will be held by a faculty member at the rank of full Professor (tenured or in residence) at the University. Additionally, the Vice Provost will possess evidence of ethical decision-making; a deep commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; a collaborative and transparent leadership style; good judgement; strong political acumen; a commitment to responsible stewardship of resources; and the ability to work as part of a team to efficiently manage a complex portfolio.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Leads the Life-Transformative Education initiative including the Task Force and five working groups. Oversees the annual workshop and direct events such as LTE week, seminars and ongoing professional development opportunities.
Manages academic units reporting to the Vice Provost including Center for Career Development, Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, Honors and Enrichment Programs, Institute for Student Success, Student-Athlete Success Program, and Veterans Affairs and Military Programs. Provides budget oversight, assesses program goals and effectiveness, conducts annual reviews of unit leaders, and coordinates searches for unit leadership.
Manages the University's accreditation process and serves as a liaison to external groups on the University's academic standing, such as APLU, Office of Higher Education, New England Board of Higher Education, etc.
Collaborates with key partners to lead and advise the University's strategic efforts on complex undergraduate initiatives across campuses such as academic advising, classroom management, curricular innovation, enrollment management, student recruitment and retention, teaching excellence, etc.
Manages ongoing and new programs and committees to support and evaluate undergraduate initiatives such as open educational resources, assessment of learning outcomes, student forums, etc.
Maintains a comprehensive understanding of the complexities, challenges, and needs of administering and promoting undergraduate initiatives across UConn's campuses, as well as tracking trends at a broader level across institutions of higher education.
Promotes and advances a culture that supports diversity, equity, and inclusion in undergraduate education, partnering with the Chief Diversity Officer and other University stakeholders to develop and implement strategies that increase awareness and accountability.
Oversees and coordinates program reviews for undergraduate academic programs in UConn's colleges and schools.
Partners with University and external stakeholders on the development and modification of policies, by-laws, guidance, processes, and procedures related to US portfolio.
Collaborates with Executive Director of Finance and Budget in managing Provost Office commitments and budget oversight of all US units.
Ph.D. or terminal degree
Current appointment at rank of Professor or Professor-in-Residence in one of UConn's schools or colleges
At least 5 years of experience leading programs, departments and/or centers, or other comparable entities at UConn or elsewhere
Demonstrated familiarity with the University's policies, guidance, and procedures related to undergraduate education
Demonstrated commitment to implementing efforts aimed at advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion
Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication about complex topics
Demonstrated leadership style that invites collaboration, encourages teamwork and shared governance, welcomes diverse perspectives, and values transparency
Demonstrated engagement with the programming of one or more of the academic units reporting to the vice provost (Center for Career Development, Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, Honors and Enrichment Programs, Institute for Student Success, and Student-Athlete Success Program, and Veterans Affairs and Military Programs).
This is a 12-month, management position. This position is open to current faculty at the University of Connecticut.
