The Lab at Vanderbilt University seeks a Drug Discovery Scientist I (DDS I) in medicinal chemistry to join our cancer drug discovery team. As part of the Drug Discovery team, the Scientist will participate in drug discovery efforts by participating in all phases of cancer drug discovery. This includes independently overseeing research; conducting and evaluating experiments and assays; operating and troubleshooting equipment; and developing methods and procedures for operating complex scientific equipment. Develop and interpret Structure Activity Relationships (SAR) and incorporate DMPK into compound design by synthesizing target molecules and interacting with pharmacologist to interpret SAR data. The Scientist will remain abreast of advances in the drug discovery field and appropriately document research studies to include procedures and results of experiments.
The Lab is a multidisciplinary team of structural biologists, medicinal chemists, and cell biologists committed to discovering and developing novel therapeutics for the treatment of cancer. We use fragment-based methods and structure-based design to discover small molecule inhibitors for important oncology targets.
Medicinal chemists in our group have the opportunity to apply cutting edge approaches to drug design and synthesize analogs of hit molecules to improve binding affinity to a protein target and activity in cancer cells and then to optimize the pharmaceutical properties of these molecules.
Duties and Reposibilities:
Develop and interpret Structure Activity Relationship (SAR) and incorporate Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinteic (DMPK) into compound design.
Synthesize Target Molecules with minimal supervision
Interpret SAR data and interact with pharmacologist
Record and Interpret analytical data (LCMS,NMR, etc.)
Incorporate DMPK data into ligand design
Participate in all phases of cancer drug discovery.
Perform scientific data collection and analyses for research projects requiring independent interpretation of complex research data
Conduct and evaluate experiments and assays under moderate supervision
Exercise discretion and independent judgment to develop methods and procedures for operation of complex scientific equipment.
Demonstrate an understanding of acceptable procedures and techniques
Prepare, operate, and troubleshoot equipment in experimental procedures
Keep abreast of trends in drug discovery field
Remain abreast of the in vitro DMPK/Tox and drug discovery research literature
Advance the quality of throughput of the in vitro DMPK/Tox assay suite
Document procedures used and results of studies as appropriate
Provide appropriate written documentation of experiments
Contribute to research as to merit serving as author or co-author on research publications
