Central Processing is one unit within Perioperative Services that supports 32 operating rooms by cleaning, disinfecting and sterilizing surgical instrumentation and equipment, flexible and ridged scopes, and case-picking equipment. The Central Processing unit also supports Patient Care Services and the Primary Care Network: within the health system by cleaning, disinfecting reusable equipment and the cleaning, disinfecting and sterilization of surgical instrumentation used by these services. The central processing unit also cleans and restocks all emergency crash carts; first responder bags, airway boxes and ICU transport bags for the Health System. The Central processing unit manages fiscal, materiel, and human resources to support the planning and coordination of surgical care and other patient care in the hospital and clinics.

Responsibilities The Central Sterile Technician 2, Per Diem focuses on the technical aspects of cleaning, disinfecting, inspecting, sterilizing and putting together functional instruments and equipment for surgical services. Other responsibilities include: disinfecting, cleaning and reassembling equipment i.e., ventilators and other patient care equipment.
Central Sterile Technician License.
Must be certified with the Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materials Management.
Knowledge/Experience with AORN (Association of Operating Room Nurses) practices.
Experience caring for instruments, scopes and surgical instruments.
Experience selecting and packaging materials.
Knowledge of traffic patterns in surgical suites.
1+ years of recent work experience in a hospital central sterile processing unit.
Works overtime, floats to other areas within Perioperative Services, availability to work weekends, holidays, and meet departmental staffing needs.
Meets on-call commitments.
This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
