The Rockefeller University seeks an Executive Editor to join Rockefeller University Press. The Executive Editor will have a diverse set of responsibilities that will help ensure that the Life Science Alliance (LSA) publishes peer-reviewed material that align with the high editorial standards of the three partner organizations. Reporting lines will depend on location. Responsibilities include selecting papers for publication that meet the editorial standards and scope of LSA, set in consultation with the journal's academic editors and LSA-LLC directors. The Executive Editor will apply high-level, objective scientific judgment, selecting papers by consulting with the editors of partner journals, by choosing appropriate expert referees, by interpreting referee reports and author responses in an objective, rigorous manner, and, by consulting with the senior academic editors and members of the LSA editorial board. Will oversee the management of the LSA editorial team and the training of scientific editors and interact with the authors of research papers, referees, and academic editors in a professional, dispassionate manner. The Executive Editor will ensure editorial and production processes are optimized and efficient, interacting with the journal production team as necessary. Will help design the LSA website, manuscript transfer, and consultation mechanisms, and coordinate marketing activities with the marketing staff, including involvement in publicity and social media activities. The Executive Editor will interact with the editorial team from partner journals to ensure they remain informed about LSA editorial criteria and manuscript processes. Will attend scientific conferences and visiting research institutions to represent LSA. Additional responsibilities include coordinating and writing summaries, press releases and other publicity about LSA articles to maximize their visibility to the global research community.
Ph.D. in biomedical science required; postdoctoral experience is encouraged. Notable research achievements in one or more relevant topics within the editorial scope of LSA (see https://www.life-science-alliance.org/collection) required. At least three years of editorial experience at a scientific journal are required. Prior managerial experience is a plus. Must have excellent communication and writing skills.
