Essential Job Duties:
This position assists pharmacists and the pharmacy and over-the-counter operations by performing the following job duties:
*Processes medication orders *Verifies orders for proper dosage *Selects appropriate medication *Determines length of therapy *Counts medication *Reviews patient profiles *Prepares prescription labels *Orders and inventories OTC (over-the-counter) medications *Prepares medications for drug cart *Checks for drug interactions under pharmacist supervision *Resolves problems that may arise with third party insurance plans *Manages insurance billing with multiple companies *Performs other duties as assigned
Maintains spreadsheet for invoice tracking, performs quality assurance control with nursing staff, and establishes new procedures to improve efficiency and productivity.
Performs quality control over posted charges entered by staff. Manages reporting and designs reports to collect statistical information for drugs dispensed, quality control, and quality assurance.
Other duties as assigned.
Completion of an accredited nine-month Pharmacy Technician program; or high school diploma or equivalency and one year of pharmacy-related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Some positions may require certification as a Pharmacy Technician.
Excellent communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate with nursing staff about medication questions.
Computer systems experience including MS Office (Excel and Word) pharmacy software and processing system and electronic health record systems.
Completion of a Pharmacy Technician program. Demonstrated knowledge of pharmacy policies and procedures, practice standards, standards from accredited and licensing agencies, and federal and state laws governing pharmacy practice.
Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of professional pharmacy, compounding, and dispensing of drugs and related items. Full knowledge of pharmaceutical drugs and formulas.
Experience with pharmaceutical software Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records and insurance billing. Detail-oriented. Strong organizational and communication skills.
Required license or certification:
Technician certification of 20 hours in 2 years in accordance with legal requirement.
