Rutgers University-Newark, an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking an Assistant Dean I & Director for the Minority Student Program. Reporting to the Dean. The Assistant Dean I, plays a key role in the continued strength and evolution of the Minority Student Program to include recruitment, admission and retention of diverse student populations through Academic support, Public service and Community engagement. This work is done in collaboration with law school faculty/staff, alumni and local bar associations. Among the key duties of this position are the following: -Develops and implements programming and training to cultivate an inclusive environment at the Law School. -Cultivates relationships with internal and external partners to increase program support and place students with various job opportunities (private, public, and non-profit), while bolstering awareness of the program. -Develops goals and metrics that assist in evaluating programs, and developing new programs, including academic development programs, as needed. -Develops and implements targeted recruitment efforts to attract diverse applicants to the Law School and the Minority Student Program.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a minimum of Juris Doctor (J.D.) and bar admission; a minimum of three years of directly-related experience of increasing responsibility in a leadership or managerial role that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of strategic planning, management, team-building, leadership skills, fiscal management, and best practices research.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
-Experience in law school education and knowledge of the legal profession required in order to fulfill counseling, recruitment, candidate evaluation, and candidate selection responsibilities. -Exemplary administrative, analytical, interpersonal, and written and oral communication skills. Outstanding leadership, managerial and organizational abilities. -Demonstrated thought leadership on the institutional adoption of diversity and inclusion programming. -Excellent organizational, management and interpersonal skills with proven ability to work effectively across multiple internal and external constituencies including: faculty; staff; students; applicants; alumni; and various agencies and institutions. -Exceptional strategic, analytical, conceptual and communication skills, along with being a collaborative, adaptable, pragmatic and effective problem solver.

-Willingness to engage in frequent domestic travel throughout the region and country to participate in events related to increasing diversity at the Law School and in the legal profession.
