Under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Research Coordinator shall contribute significantly to the development and implementation of a clinical trial in the area of confocal microscopy for subjects with cystinosis. The incumbent will be responsible for all aspects of the confocal microscopy protocol including IRB correspondence, taking images with the confocal microscope, image analysis using imaging software, sample processing, consenting subjects, subject follow-up and all documentation of protocol. In addition, incumbent will assist lab personnel during times of increased workload. Tasks include but are not limited to PCR, DNA/RNA extractions, ELISA, DNA cloning and Western Blot.
Theoretical knowledge of basic Human Genetics and Molecular Biology as typically attained by a Bachelor's Degree; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience performing biological techniques such as PCR, gel electrophoresis, sequence analysis, RT-PCR, DNA/RNA isolation, micropipetting and dilutions.
Proven experience with confocal microscopy and accompanying image software including the ability to analyze experimental results.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with laboratory equipment, including centrifuges, bioguard hood, microscope, pipeters, autoclave, balances and incubators.
Effective time management skills with the ability to work on several projects at one time and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
Experience performing repetitive and specialized laboratory experimental procedures and following experimental protocols.
Strong composition, editing, and proofreading skills to review copy for appropriate style, consistency, format, completeness, and accuracy.
Proficient computer skills not limited to Microsoft Office, Google Calendar, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat. Proven typing/word processing skills to prepare correspondence, reports, and spreadsheets.
Knowledge in and ability to follow UCSD health and safety protocols for handling of chemical, radioactive, hazardous and biohazardous materials and for general laboratory safety.
Sufficient knowledge of WordPress—Editing and uploading web page content, and creating content with appropriate formatting and media.
Experience with domestic and international travel arrangements, including coordinating with travel agencies to fulfill required travel agendas, researching and utilizing most effective and economical options, and coordinating reimbursement procedures.
Experience with UCSD's Blink, MyTravel, MyPayments, Marketplace, Express Card, EMS, Health Service Now, and eMTA.
Experience in the planning, coordination, and execution of various types and sizes of meetings and events.
Experience working with tropical medicine or infectious.
Disease research (a minimum of 6 months preferred).
Experience as a clinical research coordinator, or patient interaction in a research setting.
Experience with submissions/communication with university IRB.
