The Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN) in Palisades, New York, is seeking a Research Staff Assistant (RSA) for a full-time role. The Research Staff Assistant will perform data cleaning, integration, programming, and database maintenance operations for a number of CIESIN projects. Position also requires assisting with the statistical and spatial analysis of complex datasets for a variety of CIESIN projects and assisting with creating maps, web map services, mapping applications, and other graphic and statistical products from these data. Support development and management of interactive data access and mapping tools and create interactive mapping applications through the use of templates (cloud-based). Creation of Metadata, data documentation, project reports and presentations based on team research.
Data cleaning, integration, digitization, and database maintenance operations.
Develop documentation and guidelines and user training materials.
Assist in the creation of maps and graphic products for static maps and interactive mapping tools.
Compile and write project reports, presentations, configure and deploy mapping templates.
Compile literature review material in scientific literature and applications concerning spatial data analysis and project-specific topics as assigned.
Provides information and guidance to students on the project team.
Reports to Associate Director for Information Technology Division and receives guidance from various project leads and PIs.
Exercises independent judgment and initiative within specific objectives.
Requires a Bachelor's degree and two years related experience in information or data management.
Experience with GIS, spatial analysis tools, and remote sensing.
Knowledge of environmental decision-making tools.
Experience in data cleaning and quality checking / review.
Ability to work well in multidisciplinary teams.
