The successful candidate will assist in the collection and analysis of human specimens for the University of Tennessee's COVID-19 Surveillance Testing program. The Surveillance Testing laboratory will perform Nucleic Acid Amplification Testing (NAAT) using sample pooling, RNA isolation and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification to survey for COVID-19 infections among the campus population.
Position Responsibilities: The Surveillance Lab Technician will perform all technical procedures for the Surveillance Testing facility including sample accessioning, pooling, nucleic acid extraction, and detection of the virus by reverse transcription-quantitative PCR. The Technician will work under the guidance of the Surveillance Lab Manager to maintain a reproducible workflow, control the quality of analysis, maintain electronic and paper records, and to report analysis results. The Technician will maintain inventory for reagents, equipment and laboratory infrastructure for a conclusive, consistent and timely analysis of incoming specimens.
