The Work-Study Assistant, under general supervision, will assist the Collection Development Librarian with routine duties such as staffing the Periodicals desk and assisting library patrons, reviewing material orders, creating new titles list, physically processing materials, searching for materials in the library collection, shelf reading and inventory in the John B. Coleman Library.
Staff the service desk in the Periodicals Department
Assist library patrons with questions and use of materials and equipment in the Periodicals Department
Help ensure the Periodicals Department is tidy and well maintained
Use the library?s online catalog to review material orders
Create and edit lists for recently received materials
Physically process new materials and deselected materials
Shelve and organize library materials shelved within the Periodicals Department
Use reports and lists to review and organize the collection
Compare reports and lists to physical materials to find collection issues
Search the library collection for requested materials.

Required Education and Experience:
Presently enrolled at Prairie View A&M University for at least nine (9) graduate or six (6) undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done.
Must be in academic good standing (SAP) as demonstrated through your college; minimum 2.0 GPA
No prior experience necessary
For work eligibility during a summer term, a student must be enrolled for at least six (6) graduate or undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done or preregistered at least six (6) undergraduate semester hours or nine (9) graduate semester hours for the upcoming fall term.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Basic computer usage
Knowledge of basic functions of Microsoft Word and Excel
