Under the direction of the Cytology Supervisor, the Senior Cytotechnologist (SC) examines and evaluates cell samples for the presence or absence of normal/abnormal cellular patterns, inflammatory reactions, presence of microorganisms, and pre-malignant and malignant changes. The SC oversees the cytology operation in the absence of the supervisor. Distributes workload among the cytotechnologists and assigns responsibilities to maximize productivity. Performs 10% quality control review of all GYN negative cases and responsible for generating amendment /addendum reports using the laboratory informatics system. The SC acts as the technical expert when the Supervisor is absent or unavailable and exhibits problem solving skills. The CS works with the Supervisor to ensure all cytologic specimens are prepared and processed appropriately. The SC records cytology/histology correlations, determines specimens and tissues to be correlated, searches files and records, and assembles and prepares complete documentation for physician review. Collaborates with the supervisor to ensure the lab is inspection ready and meets regulatory requirements. Performs other job related duties as assigned.
