Responsibilities The Clinical Laboratory Scientist supports departmental goals through the performance of timely and accurate analytical blood and body fluid analysis in one or more of the technical sections including Transfusion Services, Chemistry/Special Chemistry, Hematology/Hemostasis/Special Coagulation, Immunology/Flow Cytometry, Microbiology, Point of Care (POC),Toxicology, and Molecular Pathology.
Must possess California State Issued Clinical Laboratory Science license as appropriate for job responsibilities. A specialty license or certificate, such as a Public Health Microbiologist, Clinical Chemistry Scientist, Clinical Hematology Scientist, or Clinical ImmunoHematology Scientist, is acceptable only if working in technical section with those subspecialties. Licenses and certification must be current and renewed as required.
Technical knowledge in one or more of the following sections: Transfusion Services, Chemistry, Flow Cytometry,
Hematology/Hemostasis/Special Coagulation, Hematopoietic Progenitor Cell Lab, Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Pathology, Point of Care Testing, Special Chemistry, and/or Toxicology.
Knowledge of hospital and laboratory regulations and requirements (e.g. CDPH, CAP, TJC, AABB, FDA, NAACLS, FACT, OSHA) for testing and laboratory safety
Knowledge of quality assurance, quality system essentials, continuous quality improvement, metrics, data analysis and audit processes.
Possess technical knowledge to troubleshoot instrument/equipment problems and utilize appropriate resources to resolve problems.
Possess outstanding written and oral communication skills. Ability to lead discussions, to articulate test procedures, and to make effective presentations.
Possess excellent organization, time management, prioritization, strategic thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills.
Ability to use Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), EPIC EMR, hospital incident reporting systems (e.g. RL Solutions).
Knowledge of personal computer, word processing, data management, and spreadsheet software.
Ability to maintain reports, documents and records according to policy and regulations.
Special Requirements This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
